“I am 21 years old. My name is Danielle Vaughan I got pregnant at the age of 14; I was in 8th grade. I did graduate high school, but it was extremely tough! I did not pursue my dream at a four-year university out of fear that my daughter would feel abandoned. I work hard in dead end jobs, while attending online courses, living paycheck to paycheck. I was luckier than most, I received large amounts of support from my mother and my grandmother. Eventually, my luck ran thin and I had to move out on my own, with my daughter. It’s been she and I ever since!

I’ve been obsessed with the subject of religion for about 8 years now and have committed myself to studying not only the Christian faith but also other Wisdom Traditions that offer a glimpse into the Great Mystery. I will soon be working on my PhD in Process Philosophy and will continue this geeky journey of religious studies for the rest of my adult life.
I’ve been enamored with the study of entheogens (psychedelic drugs often used in Shamanistic rituals), higher states of consciousness, Gaia theory, the ecological crisis, and other strange hippy-sounding ideas that are best discussed over marijuana.

I have fallen deeply in love with the term “religion” even though for many it is problematic. Many of the things we religious folk have done in the name of our goddesses and gods are terrifying to confess. “Spirituality” has become a term my friends are now using to reframe the conversation. For them this term sings of something mysterious and transcendent. It’s the word many are using to describe the really Real and yet really hard to explain. I like what they’re doing but must confess, I’m head over heals for religion.
